I bet you did not know that there are people out there who will do everything to see you fail. Okay I will say it again: There are people out there who will do everything to see you fail. Have you ever been on fire to accomplish a long time objective only to be told that you are wasting your time? For those who have no dream of their own, it seems they are hell bent on destroying yours. But if you evaluate such individuals it will become apparent to you why they have no vision.

Some people call them jealous while others call them haters, but there is a name for people that go out of their way to devastate your dream… they are “Dream Killers”. Dream killers are not a new breed; they have been around since the beginning of time, but before we talk about others who might destroy your ambitions let’s talk about the number one silent dream killer: procrastination.

Almost everyone has procrastinated about something, whether it was changing a diet, quitting smoking, starting an exercise program or saving money, procrastination is a self-inflicted, self-damaging measure that will act to do more to devastate your dreams than any dream killer.

Procrastination will prevent you from pursuing your dreams altogether by continually putting off an action until tomorrow. I once procrastinated about writing a book. Every time I thought about picking up the pen my mind would become cluttered with thoughts about finding a publisher, signing a once in a lifetime book deal, and other things like book marketing, that had nothing to do with the actual writing of the book. After no more than five minutes of this, I would become disheartened and say things like, “ There’s no way I will ever be an author ”… “Who would publish my book?”

This went on for years, yes years. Then one day without thinking all those pessimistic thoughts I just picked up the pen and began writing, and once I did I became electrified and motivated. “THE FACE OF A DEMON”, the book that I procrastinated about writing for so long became my first published eBook, and finally my first published book. Procrastination is probably the first dream killer that you will encounter, but it is also the easiest to overcome. All you have to do is stop thinking about it and be about it, and in little or no time you will become motivated and make a start to build upon your dream.

It is easy to spot a dream killer because they rarely have everything good to say. If you say good morning, they will answer, “What’s so good about it?” Ask a dream killer simple questions like, “How are you feeling today?” or “Isn’t this a beautiful morning?” they will give you this long list of damaging complaints that almost never ends.

When you tell a dream killer about your dream most often they will say, “You have to be realistic.” The reality of a dream is there is nothing practical about it. Ambitions do not have to be practical, but they can become a reality. Every celebrated accomplishment and contribution to mankind was once someone’s dream. The computer you are viewing this article on was at one time nothing more than a dream. Your dream is your individual view of what you would like your world to be like and you should never allow someone to rob you of such a indispensable asset.

Dream killers are skilled at destroying your dream, but they can succeed only if you let them. So how do you cope with dream killers?

Begin with yourself; learn to weed out the voices in your head. All successful people have had to deal with their own thoughts that sometimes sound like voices in your head. When your thoughts are optimistic consider and investigate them, but when they become damaging you must immediately stop. Pessimistic thoughts can lead to procrastination and procrastination can cause you to become comfortable with where you are in live and you will never begin to build your dream.

Never allow anyone to take away your dream. Don’t allow your dreams to become the object of your friends and associates comments and disapproval. Make your ambitions your biggest secret. When seeking advice find someone who has been where you are trying to go. Although your friends may mean well, they are more than likely misinformed and will only misguide you. Don’t inquire of a mechanic how to bake a turkey; you will probably end up with a greasy mess.

Dream killers will always tell you that you cannot be successful; do not listen to them. When external criticism becomes personal it gives birth to fear. Fear will then eat away at your courage, and courage is the one thing that you cannot sacrifice when building your dream. Never share your ambitions with these predictors of doom. Just remember that misery likes company.
